    Burlington Electric Earns National Achievement Award as Outstanding Utility

    Award Honors APPA Members that Have Enhanced the Prestige of Public Power Utilities through Sustained Achievement and Customer Service

    New Orleans, LA – The Burlington Electric Department today was one of three municipal utilities to be presented with an E.F. Scattergood System Achievement Award at the national conference of the American Public Power Association (APPA) in New Orleans, LA. The annual awards are presented to outstanding utilities and honor APPA members that have enhanced the prestige of public power utilities through sustained achievement and customer service. The APPA serves as the voice of not-for-profit, community-owned utilities that power 2,000 towns and cities around the country and represents public power before the federal government to protect the interests of the more than 49 million people served by public power utilities like Burlington Electric and the 93,000 individuals those employed by those utilities.

    “The Burlington Electric Department team is thrilled and honored to have received such significant recognition from the APPA,” said Neale Lunderville, Burlington Electric Department General Manager. “Once again this past year, Burlington Electric continued to lead through energy innovation. Having reached the incredible milestone of being the first City in the nation to source 100 percent of our power through renewable generation, we have set the bold, new goal to make Burlington a ‘Net Zero Energy City’ across electric, thermal, and ground transportation sectors. Further, we posted strong metrics for safety, reliability, and customer care; we launched innovative programs to help Burlingtonians go solar, reduce their energy usage, and drive and ride electric with EV and E-bike rebates; and we created programs with a special focus on helping our low- and moderate-income customers take advantage of our energy revolution. We are grateful to the APPA for its impactful work in promoting public power across our country.”
